AG Paving and Building Products (AG), a leading manufacturer of low carbon paving, walling and brick across the UK and Ireland, has reported strong sustainability performance in 2025 while continuing to expand its responsible business initiatives.
The third generation family owned company confirmed that its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions are now 57% below 2019 levels, surpassing the 30% reduction target set through its Climate Action Pledge with Business in the Community.
During 2025, AG transitioned the majority of its electricity supply to 3T Power, with the remaining demand supplemented by biomethane sourced from a neighbouring farm – supporting the company’s commitment to manufacturing with 100% renewable energy.
In 2025, AG also expanded its carbon reporting to include additional Scope 3 emissions across its supply chain, providing a more complete and transparent picture of its environmental impact. Scope 3 emissions are inherently more complex to measure, as they sit largely outside a company’s direct control, but expanding this reporting is a critical step in understanding and reducing the true carbon impact of construction.
AG’s leadership in sustainability and responsible business has been widely recognised across the industry, highlighting consistent leadership in responsible business. In 2025 the company achieved Platinum Status for the third consecutive year in Business in the Community’s Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey, highlighting consistent responsible leadership.
Under the leadership of Head of Innovation and Carbon Reduction, Michael Davies, the company has implemented supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) across its product range. This reduces Scope 3 emissions and reliance on traditional cement. These initiatives ensure customers can specify AG products with confidence, balancing performance, durability and reduced environmental impact
Progress in this area is supported by third party verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) introduced in 2024 for more than 370 of AG’s products. These provide transparent data on product impacts and clearly demonstrate the carbon reductions the company has achieved to date.
The company’s commitment to responsible sourcing and transparent supply chains was further recognised through an “Excellent” rating under the BES6001 Framework for Responsible Sourcing for the second consecutive year.
Looking ahead to 2026, AG is continuing to implement operational improvements across its sites to enhance sustainability. This includes the introduction of six new Hyster forklifts, replacing diesel models with LPG alternatives as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to reduce emissions and improve operational efficiency.
Environmental progress forms one part of AG’s wider responsible business strategy, which also places strong emphasis on investment in its people and workplace culture. In 2025, the company delivered 3,468 hours of training, averaging almost 15 hours of learning and development per colleague.
This commitment to employee development, alongside the company’s award-winning in-house health and wellbeing programme Activ8, contributed to AG being recognised for Excellence in Workplace Health and Wellbeing at the Belfast Telegraph Business Awards.
Additional recognition in 2025 included the Responsible Product Award at the Business in the Community’s Responsible Business Awards for Woodward, Ireland’s bestselling concrete brick range, and the Best Sustainable Business Award at the Irish News Workplace and Employment Awards.
Stephen Acheson, CEO of AG, said:
“Surpassing our carbon reduction targets is an important milestone, but it is not the end goal. As our business grows, reducing our environmental impact becomes more complex – not less – and that is a challenge we are choosing to confront headon.”
“Real progress in decarbonising construction will come from transparency, innovation and a willingness to rethink how products are designed, sourced and manufactured. By investing in materials innovation, responsible sourcing and more comprehensive emissions reporting, we are laying the foundations for the next phase of AG’s sustainability journey – one that balances growth with accountability and longterm impact.”
