Construction work has started on a new development of energy-efficient homes in Billericay.
Bellway is building 47 properties at Mayflower Mews on a 3.5-acre site on the southern edge of the Essex town, off Southend Road. The development of one, two, three, and four-bedroom homes will feature a range of sustainable features to reduce carbon emissions.
And it is generating more than £1.5 million of investment for local services and infrastructure. Bellway Thames Gateway Sales Director Ed Brading said: “Our commitment to building homes of the future is exemplified here with a range of sustainable properties that work beautifully for the way people want to live.
“The varied styles of our homes and the range of property sizes mean that there are options for customers with a variety of requirements and budgets, including first-time buyers aiming to take their first step on the property ladder.
“The location also makes Mayflower Mews highly desirable as it is just a 10-minute drive from Billericay railway station, which has services to London Liverpool Street that take around 35 minutes. It’s five miles to Basildon, and less than 15 miles from the coast.
“And the development is not only providing much needed high-quality housing for the area, but investment in schools, culture, health, and employment.” All the properties will have electric vehicle charging points and solar panels installed.
As part of Bellway’s planning agreement for the development, it has committed to investing more than £1.5 million in the area. The majority – over £1 million – will be spent on off-site affordable housing.
More than £400,000 will be spent on education with £209,000 for primary and £192,000 for secondary education. Open space, culture, play and sports provision will receive £77,000, and £17,000 will go to South Green Surgery, which is less than a mile from the development. Bellway will also invest £14,000 in employment and skills.
The homes at Mayflower Mews will be released for sale in July, and the first residents are expected to move in next spring.
