Regional housebuilder Bargate has started construction on its second phase of homes in Bedhampton, Hampshire, following clearance works. The new 43-home development, The Bluebells, builds on the success of its adjacent St Thomas Mead community, where residents have already established a thriving neighbourhood.
The new phase on land west of Old Manor Farm and south of Lower Road will provide a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom houses and chalet bungalows, alongside affordable homes delivered in partnership with leading housing provider VIVID.
Located beside Bedhampton’s historic conservation area, The Bluebells has been designed to reflect the character of the local village, using the same materials palette as St Thomas’ Mead. Extensive landscaping, green open space and biodiversity enhancements will also form a central part of the scheme, alongside sustainable features including air-source heat pumps, solar PV panels and EV charging points.
Mark White, Managing Director at Bargate, said: “It’s fantastic to see construction now underway on the second phase at Bedhampton following the extremely successful delivery of St Thomas Mead. The first phase proved hugely popular with buyers, and we’re pleased to be continuing our investment in the local area with another thoughtfully designed community.
“As well as delivering much-needed new homes, The Bluebells will complete the wider vision for the site by creating a new play area, community garden and allotments that will be shared by residents across both phases. That’s something we’re particularly proud of because it will help strengthen what is already becoming a well-established community for years to come.”
Pedestrian and cycle links through St Thomas Mead will encourage sustainable travel, while Bedhampton railway station, local schools, shops and everyday amenities are all within easy reach. The nearby A27 and A3 also provide convenient links to Portsmouth, Brighton and London.
The start of construction at The Bluebells follows a busy period for Bargate, including the start of homes in Pennington and the launch of the company’s 100th development, Shepherds Green in Hordle, both in the New Forest.
The first homes at The Bluebells are expected to be released for sale this autumn, with a show home due to launch in February 2027. For more information, visit www.bargatehomes.co.uk.
