Resapol supported the delivery of Sunderland’s Sheepfolds Public Realm project, supplying specialist streetscape materials and technical support for a major new pedestrian route connecting the city centre, River Wear, Sheepfolds Stables and the Stadium of Light.
Delivered by Esh Construction Ltd in partnership with Sunderland City Council, the project forms part of the wider Riverside Sunderland regeneration programme and has transformed former industrial land into an attractive, accessible and durable public space.
With Sunderland hosting the opening match of the Women’s Rugby World Cup at the Stadium of Light, completion of the route was particularly significant, helping provide improved pedestrian access for thousands of visitors travelling through the area.
Working closely with Esh Construction, Resapol supported the project with the supply of a complete UltraScape streetscape system, alongside product knowledge and technical expertise throughout the works.
Approximately 5,500m² of premium paving was installed, combining Indian sandstone, granite and natural stone, with reclaimed cobbles incorporated along the historic wagonway route to reflect the area’s industrial heritage.
To support the extensive paving installation, Resapol supplied around 800 tonnes of UltraScape Pro-Bed HS Fine Bedding Concrete, covering approximately 5,000m² at an average depth of 40mm. UltraScape Pro-Prime slurry primer was used to provide a strong bond between the paving and bedding mortar, while UltraScape Flowpoint grout, supplied in both charcoal and natural shades, completed the system.
Resapol’s involvement demonstrates the value of combining product availability with specialist technical knowledge on demanding public realm schemes. By working collaboratively with contractors and manufacturers, Resapol helps ensure the right systems are specified, supplied and supported from initial requirements through to installation.
The completed Sheepfolds scheme now provides Sunderland with a high-quality public space designed to serve the city for years to come.
