Angus Michie has officially started his tenure as Chair of Stonewater at a significant moment for the leading affordable housing provider.
Angus began in role on October 1, coming shortly after Stonewater was awarded £350 million though the Social and Affordable Homes Programme, reinforcing its position as a key strategic partner of Homes England. The funding will help Stonewater deliver 2,348 new affordable homes across the communities it operates in.
Stonewater also recently retained its SHIFT (Sustainable Homes Index for Tomorrow) Gold award, achieving its highest ever score under the housing sector’s sustainability assessment and accreditation scheme.
A qualified chartered surveyor with 30 years’ experience in the residential development industry, Angus has previously served on Stonewater’s board as Chair of Homes and Development Challenge and Assurance Panel, Chair of Stonewater Developments Limited and Chair of Stonewater Commercial Limited.
His career has included 25 years with the Berkeley Group’s operational businesses across the UK and he is also Managing Director of SevenCapital, a developer of residential and mixed-use communities across London, the Midlands and the Southeast.
He takes over the role from former chair Sheila Collins, whose seven-year tenure saw a significant period of growth for the organisation.
Angus said:
“I’m excited to be stepping into the role during a truly transformative period for Stonewater, helping drive forward our Vision to be the most trusted, inspiring and sustainable provider of affordable homes.
“The need for high-quality social housing is as urgent as ever. Everyone deserves a home where they feel safe and secure, in a community where they can thrive. A home that’s built to a high standard and ready to meet future needs, with environmental sustainability and energy efficiency in mind.
“I’m looking forward to building on the impact Sheila achieved during her tenure and will continue to keep our customers at the heart of everything we do.”
Stonewater’s Chief Executive, Jonathan Layzell, added:
“With Angus taking up his role as Stonewater’s new Chair, I’m confident his experience, expertise and passion will help us continue to build on our success and the strong legacy Sheila created.”
