Planning a self-build, renovation or home improvement project? Discover expert advice, inspiring ideas and practical solutions at the three-day National Self Build & Renovation Show.
A new year brings fresh ideas, renewed enthusiasm and the perfect opportunity to take the first steps towards creating your dream home. Taking place on a brand-new date for 2027, the Winter Edition of The National Self Build & Renovation Show is the first homebuilding event of the year – and is set to be a busy one, as visitors turn their new-year aspirations into practical plans. Whether you’re renovating a period property, extending your existing space or embarking on an exciting self-build, this is an event not to miss.
Taking place at the National Self Build & Renovation Centre (NSBRC) in Swindon, the three-day show brings together a wealth of specialist exhibitors, independent advice and practical inspiration to help turn your ideas into reality. And with free advance tickets, it’s an ideal opportunity to explore your options, ask questions and take the next steps towards your project.
There’s an extra reason to celebrate this year, too. The NSBRC is delighted to be celebrating 20 years in 2027, marking two decades of helping people create better homes. The team can’t wait to kick off this exciting milestone with an exclusive birthday party on the Friday of the show. Alongside the usual plethora of expert advice, attendees can join the celebrations and be part of a special moment in the Centre’s history.
With homeowners increasingly focused on energy efficiency, sustainable building methods and making the most of their available space, the show offers plenty to explore. Visitors can discover solutions for insulation, timber-frame construction, windows and doors, heating, renewable technologies and more, while speaking directly with specialists about the products and approaches best suited to their own homes.
Across the two theatres, a varied programme of expert talks, panel discussions and real-life case studies will cover the questions that matter most when planning and delivering a successful project. Sessions in the Sustainability Theatre will explore everything from working with architects and designers to funding and finance, finding land, project management, planning, renovation principles and VAT reclaims. It’s a chance to get to grips with the practicalities of homebuilding, whether you’re just starting to research your options or already have plans underway.
Meanwhile, the Build It Theatre will bring building methods and home improvement solutions to life, with sessions covering timber frames, insulation, windows and doors, flooring, stoves, kitchens and garden rooms. Visitors can also hear from homeowners sharing their experiences and take part in discussions on important industry topics, including heat and energy, building systems and overheating homes. These sessions offer useful insight into the choices available, helping visitors make more informed decisions about comfort, performance and long-term running costs.
Beyond the theatres, the NSBRC’s unique educational exhibits provide an opportunity to see construction techniques and technologies in context. Expert-led guided tours of the Renovation House, New Build Zone, Passivhaus exhibits and Retrofit Zone offer a closer look at different approaches to building and improving homes. Whether you’re considering a complete renovation, planning a new home or looking for ways to improve the performance of an existing property, these areas provide practical inspiration and a valuable opportunity to learn from experienced guides.
The show is designed to support people at every stage of their journey. Those in the early stages can gather ideas, compare options and understand the decisions ahead, while anyone already progressing with a project can speak with exhibitors and specialists about specific challenges. Visitors can also take advantage of free one-to-one appointments with relevant experts, helping them find answers tailored to their own plans.
To make the most of your visit, arrive early, bring along any plans or sketches you have, and come prepared with questions. With expert talks, practical demonstrations, specialist exhibitors, guided tours and the NSBRC’s 20th-anniversary celebrations, there’s plenty to discover across the three days.
