In healthcare and other managed-water environments, decisions made during design and specification can influence how easily water outlets can be effectively commissioned, inspected, isolated, tested, flushed, maintained and recommissioned throughout their service life.
For showers, that means considering more than immediate user safety and functionality. Access to services, suitable isolation points and provision for effective flushing all contribute to practical long-term water management.
Horne pre-plumbed shower panels bring these requirements together within a factory-assembled, pressure-tested unit. Because the pipework and service connections are already assembled within the panel, there is less on-site assembly and fewer wall penetrations – simplifying installation, coordination and future access. Accessible low-level servicing and isolation points support maintenance, sampling, pressure and temperature testing and performance verification, while also simplifying decommissioning and recommissioning when outlets are temporarily taken out of use.
Provision is made for elevated-velocity (EV) flushing. Unlike routine, or ‘duty’ flushing, which principally turns over and replaces stagnant water, EV flushing specifically increases shear forces at the internal pipe surfaces, helping to disturb, erode and mobilise accumulated material and biofilm from local pipework.
Where a further level of water-hygiene control is desired, Horne -T4 and -T9 shower models incorporate the patented In-line Thermal Disinfection Unit (ILTDU), enabling targeted thermal disinfection of the mixed-water pathway through to the outlet using the existing >60°C system hot-water supply.
These measures can be particularly valuable where occupancy fluctuates, or facilities experience periods of reduced use, temporary shutdown or seasonal closure.
By incorporating access, ease of flushing and maintainability from the outset, shower specification can support effective water management from commissioning through long-term operation, temporary decommissioning and subsequent recommissioning.
