Property services specialist Bell is marking a key milestone for its highly successful Safer Homes Initiative. Working in partnership with major housing providers, the scheme has engaged with over 1,000 residents across the country on ways to maintain a safer, healthier, and more secure home – with a particular focus on damp and mould.
Launched in 2024, Bell’s Safer Homes Initiative is a community focused programme designed to provide proactive and practical expert advice to tenants to help them look after their homes, stay safe, and avoid scams and fraud. It is delivered in partnership with housing associations, the police, the fire service, and home energy advisors.
To date, the Safer Homes Initiative has worked with housing providers including Orbit, LiveWest Homes, Glasgow West Housing Association, the London Borough of Camden, and Places for People, and has welcomed over 1,000 residents to the friendly and informative sessions.
One of the key areas of focus is damp and mould, which has become nationally important with the introduction of Awaab’s Law. This legislation has highlighted the risk that mould can present and requires social housing providers in England to investigate and remediate such hazards within strictly defined timeframes. The law currently covers all emergency hazards as well as damp and mould, expanding to include additional hazards in October 2026 and further still in 2027.
The Safer Homes Initiative complements this formal compliance activity and supports the preventative aims of Awaab’s Law by empowering residents. The sessions help them to understand how everyday behaviours, ventilation, heating and moisture management can reduce the risk of damp and mould from developing or reoccurring.
Bell is a specialist in this area, and its Damp and Mould services have been designed with these obligations in mind – supporting registered providers across the UK and Ireland to identify issues early, remediate effectively, and protect tenants from potential risks.
