Bellway wins gold for design of homes at Hedworths Green at Lambton Park in County Durham

Bellway’s Hedworths Green at Lambton Park development in County Durham has won the Gold Award for Best Exterior Design at the What House? Awards, being described by the judges as ‘elegant, confident, and timeless’.

The development is a new-build project within the historic 1,200-acre Lambton Estate and has been designed with a range of traditional architectural styles, to look as if it has evolved organically over centuries.

The awards judges described Hedworths Green at Lambton Park as ‘a development of exceptional visual integrity and interest’, adding that it ‘demonstrates how strong design leadership and thoughtful control can create a contemporary neighbourhood that feels instantly established, welcoming and enduringly beautiful’.
They said: “From the first impression to the smallest detail, it conveys a deep respect for heritage, proportion and the enduring qualities of great placemaking.”
Bellway Durham Managing Director, Frank Lincoln, said:

Bellway is building 145 new homes at the development, centred around a large village green and including a café and a traditional buttercross.

The development lies within the historic country estate which is the ancestral seat of the Earls of Durham. It is part of a wider redevelopment of the site of the former Lambton Lion Park which was open at the estate from 1972 to 1980.

The What House? Awards took place on Friday 21 November at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House hotel in Mayfair, London, hosted by television presenter Gabby Logan. More than 1,000 industry professionals attended the event. The awards are now in their 45th year.
