A nationally renowned flooring specialist is using Marmox Multiboard as part of a high-specification installation covering much of the 13th floor of Moor House, an architecturally striking commercial office building on London’s historic London Wall.
Epping-based OSF is a family-run business serving commercial, residential and other sectors across the UK. For this project, its 40-strong workforce is working to a challenging timetable, with progress needing to be maximised without compromising appearance or long-term durability.
Following removal of the original carpet tiles, the raised access floor is being covered with 12.5mm Multiboard to provide a suitable substrate for unusually large-format limestone tiles.
OSF MD and founder Ollie Scarfe comments:
“We specialise in delivering high-specification flooring finishes for the construction industry, with a reputation built on quality and service. At Moor House we are providing the flooring package for the project developer, including carpet tiles in the offices, broadloom to the media rooms, vinyl in the kitchen and limestone in the boardroom.
“We are installing 1200 x 1200mm, 20mm-thick limestone tiles across 360 square metres after our proposals for the build-up were accepted by the project team. Although the company has been established for nearly 20 years, we have only been using Marmox Multiboard for the past 6-12 months, replacing plywood and a decoupling mat. This solution is quicker, equally effective and saves a lot of money. We now really only use Multiboard as the substrate for such situations.”
A total of 445 1200 x 600mm Multiboard sheets were supplied through Pro Tiler Tools in Northampton. Installation is being carried out using approximately 150 tubes of Marmox MSP 360 adhesive, together with specialist galvanised steel washers to spread the load from the screw fixings.
Marmox Multiboard comprises XPS encapsulated in reinforced polymer concrete and is available in a range of thicknesses. Fully waterproof, lightweight and easy to cut, it can withstand substantial loadings of up to 300kPa, equivalent to 30 tonnes per square metre.
Multiboard can be screw fixed using specialist plastic dowels or bonded using Marmox adhesive. It is widely used as a substrate for tiling in commercial and domestic applications, including wetrooms and swimming pools. Where a fully waterproof surface is required, joints are sealed using Marmox butyl-based waterproofing tape.
