School in London has its recreation area shaded by markilux awnings. Climate change means that weather protection, and sun protection in particular, is becoming increasingly important. And not just for private gardens, balconies and patios. Nurseries and schools are also required to create safe shaded areas. A secondary school in London therefore decided to equip its recreation area with a large awning system from markilux.
Stratford School Academy is located in East London, in the borough of Newham, near Westham Park in Forest Gate. The school has more than 1,000 students. To protect them from too much heat and ultraviolet light in summer, the powers that be have had a large awning system installed in the recreation area, covering around 125 square metres.
Quality and safety called for
The system extends over a length of approximately 35 metres and consists of several units of the “pergola classic” system coupled together – a type of awning that is suitable for large areas requiring shade. “This project required sun protection that was as wind-resistant as possible and also suitable for light rain,” explains Jan Kattenbeck, head of “markilux project”. In the main, a high product quality with a long service life was important to the school. “The awning cover is a flame-retardant material that is also waterproof. This means that students can spend their breaks outdoors during the summer, even in wet weather,” stresses the awning expert.
Reliable professional expertise compelling
The installation of the awning system by a qualified specialist partner was preceded by thorough advance planning. This included descriptive 3D animations and initial technical drawings. Subsequently, when detailed measurements of the site were taken and the pergola system was installed, the specialist company was supported and assisted by the technical service team of the awning specialist. This is particularly helpful in the case of larger projects and offers additional security during the professional installation of such large-scale sun and weather protection systems. According to Jan Kattenbeck, this comprehensive package completely won over markilux’s business customer. 2,225 characters
