The Royal Ballet & Opera and Harlequin have had a long-standing relationship lasting over 30 years, working collaboratively across a variety of productions and performance spaces. Throughout this partnership Harlequin has supplied sprung and vinyl dance floors, supporting safety, precision and artistic excellence of both ballet and opera performances.
The main auditorium stage is a solid theatre stage that is predominately used during opera productions. However, when the Royal Ballet need to rehearse or perform on the main stage, the stage crew will begin the transformation using a bespoke ballet wagon.
The ballet wagon allows for easy transition between a rigid theatre stage and a sprung floor for ballet. The wagon is fitted with Harlequin Liberty sprung floor panels, designed to deliver support and responsiveness to the dancers.
Emma Wilson, Director of Technical, Production & Costume, said:
“A sprung floor means that we’ve got the safety of our dancers and the quality of their performance at the forefront of our minds.”
Harlequin has led the way in the development of the modern dance floor for over 45 years and has worked closely with dance scientist, experts in biomechanics and the dance community to develop floors that are tailored to the specific requirements of dancers.
Harlequin have a variety of sprung and vinyl performance floors that are all specified online and on NBS.
