Leading British ventilation manufacturer Vent-Axia is proudly supporting Clean Air Day on Thursday, 19 June 2025. This year’s campaign highlights how air pollution affects us from before our first breath until our last, and encourages people to understand the health risks as well as urge MPs to support stronger air quality laws in the UK so we can all breathe cleaner air and live healthier lives. Clean Air Day is the UK’s largest air pollution campaign, led by Global Action Plan with the support of Health Equals. The campaign raises public understanding of the harmful effects of air pollution, inspiring the public to take action to clean up the air.
Awareness of the importance of good indoor air quality (IAQ) has grown significantly since the pandemic, but concern has deepened in recent years following the tragic death of 2-year-old Awaab Ishak, caused by a mouldy home. As a result, from October, Awaab’s Law, part of the Social Housing (Regulation) Act, is set to impose strict legal requirements on social landlords to investigate and resolve mould issues. Consequently, households are becoming far more aware of the risks associated with poor IAQ and condensation and mould.
But IAQ issues affect far more than just social homes. Research1 from the University of Birmingham recently found that people may be exposed to unhealthy levels of airborne pollutants inside their homes, even if outdoor air quality is good. The research found significant differences in particulate matter (PM) levels between three houses that were studied over a two-week period, with one home exceeding the World Health Organisation (WHO) 24-hour PM2.5 limit on nine days – this shows the importance of monitoring IAQ at a household level. Factors that influenced particle levels in the study included household location, ventilation, and occupancy, illustrating the complexity of indoor air quality.
As well as PM2.5, indoor air can contain over 900 chemicals, particulates, biological materials, viruses and bacteria. Each of us breathes 9,000 litres of air a day, so poor IAQ can affect the health of everyone in the home. Even naturally occurring CO2 can have an impact on our health, with high levels of 2,000-5,000 PPM causing headaches, sleepiness, poor concentration, increased heart rate and slight nausea.
Katie Mairs, Channel Marketing Manager at Vent-Axia said:
“At Vent-Axia we are committed to tackling indoor air pollution and helping people create healthier homes; we are therefore supporting Clean Air Day since we know how air pollution affects us from before our first breath until our last. This Clean Air Day we are therefore encouraging households to take three main actions: Reduce the number of pollutants introduced into the air; Dilute the pollutants in the air by ensuring there is adequate ventilation introducing fresh clean air; and Purify by adding an air purifier to remove the remaining pollutants from the air.”
Vent-Axia offers a range of innovative products designed to help improve IAQ in homes. The Vent-Axia PureAir Sense fan is ideal for home refurbishments, featuring a pioneering odour sensor that increases airflow when the air quality is poor, ensuring a comfortable living environment. Running from just 19dB(A), the PureAir Sense is whisper quiet, providing silent, continuous operation without disturbing the household. It includes an intelligent, fully automatic humidity sensor that detects moisture levels and boosts accordingly to prevent condensation and mould. The fan continually monitors the environment and records the moisture content to allow it to map the humidity profile throughout the year. This ensures it runs only when necessary, reducing nuisance running, and keeping running costs down.
Meanwhile, the PureAir Home Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) offers whole house air purification and humidity control. Designed to improve IAQ and prevent moisture build-up, the PureAir Home offers a highly effective solution to tackle condensation and mould, as well as offering high levels of air filtration. The PureAir Home reduces the risk of health issues in the home by improving IAQ and quickly eradicating conditions that lead to mould growth and associated health issues such as asthma and itchy skin. Providing fresh, tempered air into the home that is drier than the inside air, the PureAir Home creates an indoor environment where condensation and mould find it hard to exist, benefiting occupants and avoiding the damaging effects on the building.
And for advanced air purification in the home, the Vent-Axia PureAir Room air purifier cleanses the air, removing harmful particles, neutralising bad smells and removing pollen and pet allergens, for a fresher and healthier home. Designed with an advanced six-stage filtration system, the Vent-Axia PureAir Room filters out mould, dust, viruses, PM2.5, VOCs, pet allergens and odours with its High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter removing 99.9% of particles.
For larger homes and commercial properties, there is the Vent-Axia PureAir Room 500 X. Partnering with CodiKoat, who has developed the fastest ISO certified antimicrobial and antiviral coating technology in the world, the PureAir Room 500 X features an advanced seven-stage air cleaning system, offering a healthier and safer environment with its ground-breaking CodiKoat HEPA PLUS filter. This medical grade H13 HEPA filter contains an advanced coating, a unique nano treatment, certified to ISO 18184:2019 (determination of antiviral activity of textile products) by independent labs, which kills 99.99% of viruses, bacteria, and fungi within seconds of contact – making it the world’s fastest ISO certified antimicrobial and antiviral HEPA filter.
It is vital to combat air pollution to protect health and wellbeing. By making some simple changes, households can protect themselves and others by ventilating and purifying their home to improve the air they breathe.
