Widening wall cavities by just 25mm allowed Inox Construction to choose insulation that delivered thermal performance with a ‘fast and painless’ installation.
While delivering a large extension project on a 1950s semi-detached house, Inox Construction made the decision to switch from using rigid PIR board insulation in a 125mm cavity to Knauf Insulation’s DriTherm® Cavity Slab 32 in a 150mm cavity.
This allowed them to achieve a wall U-value of 0.17W/m²K, with a product that was also non-combustible and lower in embodied carbon.
Andy Davies, Director, Inox Construction said:
“We found that using mineral wool in a 150mm cavity was significantly faster than using boards… You lose so much time installing boards correctly, whereas it was painless to achieve a snug fit with the DriTherm® Cavity Slabs.”
