The centre is based at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust and serves the population of Harrogate and the surrounding district. We also serve some patients from the North Leeds area. Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust is located 15 miles from York and 20 miles from the Leeds Cancer Centre at St James Hospital.

Arts & healthcare specialists Willis Newson have been working with Macmillan, Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, and architects Nightingale Associates to deliver the project.

Using patterns inspired by nature, the artist has created a series of perforated metal cylindrical light tubes which border pathways. This design is also incorporated in nine back-lit panels on the external walls of the building, and in the long metal fence.

Movement triggers two projections in the entrance building’s courtyard which use images inspired by health and nature, including a hedgehog and a gardener.
